Although we tackle each day with faith and hope, and pray that our donors would increase in number to enable us to honour our commitments as day-to-day running of the homes come to approximately R140,000 monthly and covers water, electricity and salaries for the staff!  At the same time, we thank God for the blessings that we DO receive!

We have started soup kitchens for the destitute, needy and unemployed at our HO at New Life Centre in Rosettenville, as well as at Camelia House in Townsview and this is proving to be a great success! I, personally, did not realize that there are SO many needy people in this area and it fills our hearts with joy and gratitude to be able to do more for the community!

On Mandela Day, we were SO blessed, not only to receive BUT TO GIVE soup AND blankets to the needy in our community!

We had received a HUGE donation of canned and dry goods from Nomfundo and her team at ABSA!

Tea and cake for the elderly, as well as fun and treats by Sue Lubbe, in conjunction with Queenspark Clothing and Miss Teen SA 2010, Chante Jantjies. An afternoon of joy and face-painting was enjoyed by our kids with Spur / Panarotti’s!

Social Development Staff came with gifts and groceries for the seniors and they were serenaded by Grace Little Angels Daycare/Pre-primary.

Chriscentia of QJ Butterflies Events was SO generous in bringing scarves, beanies, gloves and blankets for all our kids, and the kids absolutely LOVED it!

We were overjoyed when Clinton Spider from Mondeor Primary School pitched up here with boxes and boxes of bread and soup! Kudo’s to you and your school, Clinton!

So, all in all Resthaven had an amazing Mandela month as gifts and groceries galore came our way, now we just have to concentrate on the finances, which seems to be lagging with this current economy!

Warm clothing is sorely needed! Should you have any gently worn clothing for kids aged from 3 – 16, or for the elderly, it would be most welcome! Especially for our kids whom haven’t been with us for that long!

Hope you enjoyed reading about our Mandela month and may God bless each and every one of you!

Lots of love.
