Newsletter - May 2025

Dear Readers,

Here we are – another month gone – when we look again it’s Christmas 😊 however, right now I hope you are all keeping warm and looking after your health?

We also had Mother’s Day and I pray all the mothers that read our Newsletter had a pampered and loved-up day!!

Okay, now for our news 😊 let’s start with the birthdays for June:  None of our children at David House has a birthday this month, and only one staff child Mary Mulumba who will be 8 on 19th June.

There are two birthdays at Camelia Home for the Aged:

Maurine will be 80 on the 3rd (which one would never guess as she always presents herself totally groomed and smiling 😊) and Bobbie will be 75 on the 8th. If you are a regular reader of our Newsletters, you may remember that I told you about how Bobbie used to care for his wife Lorraine (who has now passed some time ago) by helping her dress, brushing her hair and generally doing everything he could to make her life easier. I was quite surprised to see Bobbie on the stage with the Praise and Worship Team at church on Sunday, but there he was with his microphone tapping his feet for all he was worth!! 😊

There is also one caregiver, Refilwe who cares for the elderly that has a birthday on the 25th when she will be 36.

There is a major mentor who has been working with our male children for many years that had a huge sports day and our children were invited!

They absolutely loved the pomp and ceremony!!

The two boys who are receiving extra tutoring are really doing well, and one of them was over the moon when he got more than 80% for maths 😊

Our children are also attending an Arts Festival on the 31st of May and they are busy preparing frantically with speeches, plays and whatever their fruitful imaginations can conjure up!

The little boy who had recently gone into foster care is ecstatic with having a happy home life at last!! And that he now has siblings and caring parents is more than he ever hoped for in his short little life!!

Last month we had about 24 children from a certain school that came to serenade our elderly with harmonious song and shame, they couldn’t get over the beauty of these youngsters voices 😊

We were blessed to receive quite a large number of boxes with groceries, eg. Sugar, rice, mealie meal and also toiletries for the children and elderly from a donor. And somehow, they just knew the right things to send lol!!

There was a visit from a church who brought toys for the children and beautiful flowers and eats for the children. There are also some visitors coming with scarves and beanies for our people. The children especially are always in need of warm clothing during these cold winter months.

Another thing that I am not sure I have mentioned before, is that we are now serving as a conduit to more than 10 soup kitchens. Not only in our community, but as far out as Krugersdorp, Kempton Park and Boksburg too!! Feeding the hungry is how our organization was started and we need to carry on the Founder, Pastor Roy Saunders’ vision. I have shared some pictures with you below, but first let’s look at the Forgotten Hungry:

Nick, from the Sharing Kindness Foundation collects soup and other food stuffs from our Distribution Centre and shares with various organizations as seen above 😊

And as always, we are most grateful for those who are committed to support us in the care of our beloved children and old people!! I honestly cannot imagine how we look after them without your assistance, may God bless you more than you could ever imagine!!

This month we are really battling to raise funds but we always trust in the Lord and keep our eyes above any storms we may encounter, but if this message reaches your heart – please let us know!!

The soccer/volley ball/tennis court/netball field we are developing for the children is really coming on well!! Grass is laid and watered, now we need to put another layer of sand and tamp it down to even it out. Then we will start with the fence 😊. We did ask for quotes for the fence, but omw it boggles the mind the way everything is so expensive lately!! Which is why we have decided to do it ourselves.

Well, that’s about it, Ladies and Gentlemen 😊 and we hope to bring you much more uplifting and positive news in our next month’s Newsletter. I always try to keep our Newsletter joyful and positive, but there are months like this May where I need to mention that we are challenged!!

So, I leave you with this : We give thanks to our God always for YOU!!

Much love,

Resthaven Fundraisers
