Hi-hi to Everybody 😊,
Hope this month has treated you better than January did? I must say that is what had inspired me to start off with a BIG thank you, as you can see above 😊 You are our people, and you had come through for us!! We SO appreciate all those that extend a helping hand from our very hearts, especially as our cupboards were quite bare after the Christmas holidays!!
Let’s start off with the birthdays:
Keegan, one of our newest little boys will be turning 6 on the 1st, as well as Oyama, our loyal and caring caregiver Emily’s little boy.
Johnson, who is a twin but his brother is doing an internship in Tourism in Mpumalanga will be turning 20 on the 7th. Shame, I’m sure he misses his twin terribly!! Johnson is now doing an internship in fashion and design.
Oarabetswe, Refilwe – who is a caregiver at Camelia House’s little boy will be 5 on the 11th.
On the 23rd our McGyver Desmond will be 40 and his little daughter, Dinah will be 7 on the 26th.
On 29th March, we also have 2 birthdays 😊 our Aunty Avis at Camelia House will be a healthy and happy 97, and our Ronel, who is truly a Jill of all trades will be 60.
Last but not least, is our caregiver at David House Esther who will be 42 on the 30th.
The soccer boys at David House is joyously into their soccer season and, happily, we were able to purchase new soccer boots for them.
They still need the shin guards, though.
We are also in the process of developing a mini soccer field for them at our HO, with a fence – similar to tennis court fences – around and a clubhouse. We intend to make the clubhouse multi-functional as well as the soccer field. We are planning on having volley ball, netball and even portable putt-putt events on the soccer field 😊
However, our kids need to socialize more. Besides having each other at home, and of course, their classmates they hardly ever have the opportunity to integrate outside life in their life experiences. To this end, we are looking at options.
Jabu is now in matric, but he’s one of our main soccer boys. Besides focusing on his studies (and the school he’s in is really going the extra mile in supporting him), his dream of becoming a regular soccer star is what drives him. I have previously mentioned the little family of 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Jabu is the eldest and his little brother, Prince is a prefect, and we are so proud of him! The 2 sisters, Valentine and Grace, are just as talented. Valentine is now into art and Gracie is determined to become a scientist.
Thankfully, we were able to get a tutor for 2 of our children in English/Afrikaans and Maths and we are extremely grateful for this because we truly would like our children to excel! Actually, the primary school that the smaller children are at are good enough to offer extra lessons to all who require it.
Our water meter at David House was stolen about 2 months ago, and oh my word, what a battle it has been with the powers that be to have this sorted out!!! The children and caregivers battled with no running water for that time, and praise God the home for elderly (which is right next to them) was able to assist. After running back and forth to water department all that time, we ended up with an unbelievable water bill :O
Our girls at David House are so looking to join Girl Guides, and since no hands have reached out to make that a reality, have now decided that they will be camping out but they need help. They need tents, plastic eating utensils, hamburger patties and bread rolls for supper for 2 nights, eggs and bread rolls for breakfast. They need gas appliances for cooking, and good grief, I don’t even know what all as I’ve never been camping. Any suggestions or support on this would be SO appreciated by our girls!!
As far as our elderly go, they make their own social life by playing bingo once a month, have visits from the church for fellowship, praise and worship and also have scrabble, and other board game, days to keep themselves amused. But always love to see and welcome visitors.
And I almost forgot!! Neil, our CEO, organized a Valentine’s Dance for the elderly in the middle of February and a great time was had by all!! Never knew the oldies could move like that!! :D
Advice on the soccer field, portable putt-putt course and clubhouse is welcomed too!!! Please help us make this a reality for our children, and perhaps even making it a sustainable project where we would be able to earn a little extra on it???
Well, that’s us for now and we are already looking forward to sharing our news for the month of March with you 😊
