Hello Friends of Resthaven π
Well, Easter has come and gone and our Christmas holidays are but a distant memory. Time seems to go by faster and faster! Could it be my age?
This month we have quite a bit of news to share π, starting with the joy and pride our soccer boys bring us. Njabulo, Prince and Skylar (all different age groups) won their soccer matches and are so chuffed. Prince was also made a class monitor, so he is really doing well! We were blessed to receive funds for Prince to go to the Kruger National Park, and he was so impressed he said he wants to live there forever π
The awesome company of Reatile is renovating the boysβ rooms at David House, they have lifted the carpets and placed tiles, painted the rooms, and generally revamped the rooms. They are also revamping the gym area for the boys, as well as fixing the facia boards at our Head Office. Thank you SO much Reatile, for a much needed revamp!!
Also want to extend HUGE thanks to Gold Reef / SOJO for the single beds you donated in order for us to renovate more rooms for the elderly. The amount of requests we receive for accommodation is astounding and quite heartbreaking!
Martin and Angela who trained with Izak Davel of Acting with the Stars will be appearing of E!Tv Channel 138 on DSTV and 108 on Open View soon. As a matter of fact, I heard today that it may possibly at 8pm on the 6th May π We look forward to seeing our kids become TV stars π
The sister of one of our staff members has been standing with our kids at David House for absolutely years now and regularly takes them for a swim at her house during summer, as well as Christmas lunches. She generously gave each child R2,000-00 to shop for new clothes recently. It goes without saying that the kids were over the moon!! We truly appreciate your generosity and heart for our children!
Now to the matric jackets that we required, we did receive donations for Martin to get his matric jacket and it is on order. As soon as he has received it, we shall be posting pictures of him with his new jacket. The other three boys, Johnson, David and JohnJohn, who are in their last year of schooling also got their jackets and they look super smart π David is also doing leadership training at school! And 2 of our boys have registered to become leaders in Child Ministry at the Riverside Community Church.
Martin is expected to attend a compulsory study camp in October and we are in serious need of an additional R700-00 for him to be able to go.
Another generous donor whose little daughter donated her birthday cake to the kids at David House and spent her birthday with them some time ago came and visited our children with hot cross buns and easter eggs.
We have also had three Psychology students spend time with our social worker Ingrid, as well as discussing feelings and emotions with our children. They even went as far as doing a baking class with them π
There are 2 birthdays this month:
Njabulo, one of our soccer stars, will be turning 16; and
Bonolo β a new little girl β will be turning 10!
On the weekend of the 25th March, we had a whole family come over to cook lunch and donate lots of canned foods.
By law, our housemothers and caregivers have to be upskilled consistently and our housemother at David House, Ethel, and one caregiver, Isobel is currently doing a course in Child and Youth Care work. Keeping our staff upskilled does not come for free, so please know that whatever donations you send in not only goes towards the day-to-day care of our homes but also to keeping our staff skilled π
Wow, as Iβve mentioned thatβs a lot for this month and I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as Iβve enjoyed sharing the news with you π
Wishing each and every one of you the very best of joy, health, and success in all your hands touch! β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
Lots of love,
Resthaven Fundraisers
